Which keyboard can I use to write in Hebrew and Russian?
Babelo, a translator keyboard for iPhone and Android. In its language panel, choose “I type: Russian” and “I translate to: Hebrew”. You write in Russian, tap 文A, and your text is replaced by its Hebrew translation before you send it. The ⇄ button reverses the direction. It works in WhatsApp and every app.
Write in Hebrew from Russian, step by step
- Install Babelo from the App Store or Google Play, then open the app: it walks you through turning on the keyboard.
- In WhatsApp or any app, switch to the Babelo keyboard, then tap the language button at the top of the keyboard.
- Choose “I type”: Russian, and “I translate to”: Hebrew.
- Fill in “I am” and “I'm talking to” (Woman or Man): in Hebrew, words change with gender.
- Type your message in Russian, then tap 文A: it is replaced by its Hebrew translation. Read it over and send it.
Hebrew with the right gender
In Hebrew, verbs and adjectives change depending on whether a woman or a man is speaking, and to whom. In Russian, the past tense changes with the gender of the person writing. Babelo passes your “I am” and “I'm talking to” choices to the translation, so a message to a woman is not written as if to a man. Hebrew is written right to left: the app you send it in displays it that way, as for any Hebrew message.
Reading a message you received
On Android, Babelo puts a 👁 on the messages you receive (you allow Android's Accessibility service once): tap it and the translation shows on screen, in your language. On iPhone, iOS does not let a keyboard read the screen: copy the message (hold it, then Copy), then tap 👁 on the Babelo keyboard. Or share the text to Babelo with the Share button, when the app offers it.
